A critical look at some point-process models for repairable systems

چکیده

The use of a model-driven approach to the analysis of repairable systems is considered and shown to be userul as a way of understanding the characteristics of such a system. However, considerable statistical problems arise from the use of a set of standard model-building elements. In particular, identification problems arise in many of the modeis. The argument is iIIustrated by examples from software reliability and mechanical reliability. The conclusion is that, in many cases, the exploratory data-analysis approach is as effective as the use of more sophisticated models.

Introduction to Schramm-Loewner evolution and its application to critical systems

In this short review we look at recent advances in Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) theory and its application to critical phenomena. The application of SLE goes beyond critical systems to other time dependent, scale invariant phenomena such as turbulence, sand-piles and watersheds. Through the use of SLE, the evolution of conformally invariant paths on the complex plane can be followed; hence a...

Monodromy problem for the degenerate critical points

For the polynomial planar vector fields with a hyperbolic or nilpotent critical point at the origin, the monodromy problem has been solved, but for the strongly degenerate critical points this problem is still open. When the critical point is monodromic, the stability problem or the center- focus problem is an open problem too. In this paper we will consider the polynomial planar vector fields ...

Maintenance of Repairable Systems

A commonly used definition of a repairable system (Ascher and Feingold [3]) states that this is a system which, after failing to perform one or more of its functions satisfactorily, can be restored to fully satisfactory performance by any method other than replacement of the entire system. In order to cover more realistic applications, and to cover much recent literature on the subject, we need...
